Dedicated to improving the health of the communities it serves, Muhlenberg offers a comprehensive program of preventive, diagnostic, and primary angioplasty interventional services with off-site surgical back up, therapeutic, and rehabilitative services for cardiac care.

In a groundbreaking advance for cardiac medicine, Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center became the first hospital in New Jersey, without a cardiac surgery program, to be awarded State approval to perform emergency angioplasty on patients who had experienced a heart attack.

Preventative Cardiac Services
Muhlenberg has consistently been designated by the American Heart Association as a top hospital in Union County which offers programs focusing on screenings for blood pressure, cholesterol and diabetes and education in exercise, nutrition, smoking cessation, and more.

Diagnostic Cardiac Services
Cardiovascular services at Muhlenberg are accomplished in a quality environment that supports the practice of 24 cardiologists, including 16 who perform catheterizations and 4 who are cardiac interventionalists.

Non-Invasive Cardiac Diagnostics
Annually, the non-invasive cardiac diagnostic service performs 30,000 procedures for patients admitted to Muhlenberg, referred from physicians, the Plainfield Health Center or the JFK Family Practice Center. Comprehensive diagnostics include: echocardiograms, electrocardiograms, holter monitoring, pacemaker evaluations and reprogramming, stress testing, vascular studies, and cardiac consultation.

Invasive Cardiac Diagnostics
The Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory at Muhlenberg provides invasive cardiology for diagnostic purposes and primary angioplasty in emergent situations. Full diagnostic services are provided to inpatients and outpatients by 16 cardiologists and a clinical team of nurses, radiographers, and cardiovascular invasive specialists.

Therapeutic Cardiac Services
A multidisciplinary team manages the care of critically ill patients, including the Mobile Intensive Care Team (MICT), the Emergency Department, the Cardiac Care Unit (CCU), the Medical/Surgical Intensive Care Unit, Progressive Care Unit, and Rehabilitative Cardiac Services.
